"All She Was Worth"

Summary:The story revolves around a theme of Japanese credit cards industry and a detective Syunsuke who asked by his relative named Kazuya to track down on  his missing fiancee, Shoko Sekine. The missing woman Shoko has disappeard from her fiance at one sight without any clue to be seen and has done it at her will. Nobody knows why she had to do so.

sounds very intriguing isnt' it?

First of all, let me tell you I thoroughly enjoyed this book which kept me going on and on to an extend where I had to neglect to prepare my dinner.BUT when I reached out the very end, expecting a plot twist or some confession from main characters about the whole detail of the crime they have commited ,which is suppose to finally shed a light on the mystery, None of them came.

I was literally screaming in my mind ' THIS IS IT ??'

'WAHT A BOOK!' Holy Crap the ending is a huuuuuge  let-down for me.

Her other books were surely better than this in terms of a tension as a mystery.

Don't get me wrong , it is really gripping  but just the ending that is unbearably unsatisfactory. The main narrator is the detective Shunsuke that I pressume makes it difficult for readers to develop  feelings or emotions towards other characters .Also since the missing woman  (her real name is Kyoko)who pretends to be different person in order to flee from reckless debt collecters doesn't unravel the truth , regarding what really happen to the real Shoko considered to be killed by her, Where she buried her other body parts , What was like their ralationship between Shoko and Kyoko ,you name it.They are the truth which fundamentally important to understand the whole mystery aren't they?

Anyway, before you guys think I'm just waffling what I didn't like about it, I have to admit that the author has done a really good job at disclosing our purely corrupted society. The setting of the story is around late 80's and early 90's when Japanese society was struggling with a great depression due to the bubble economy burst.

Many a company had to fire their employees , Many people lost their jobs , houses, famliy and whatnot. People stars to get into debt to get by but interests are ridiculously high that very few people manage to pay off thie debt .

In this book,Kyoko 's parent had a preposterous amount of debt and they were fleeing from collecters who do anything to get them to pay off.

Kyoko was not happy at all but she has been always dreaming to be happy .

and SO WE HAVE . Everybody wants to happy. but Kyoko didn't have choice but to falsify a register and to complete this task Kyoko apperantly needed to eliminate Syoko to live as a completely different person. So a  problem here is Kyoko didn't harm people for her own personal reasons but to survive .She wasn't  born with evil DNA but just as a human who simply wants to be happy just like us.SO it is probably wrong to think the crime stems from the culprit only. Society possibly grows them and brings her to a crisis where she has to do something to survive wether it is illegal or not , right or not . The brame is not just on Kyoko. The book also tells some important lessons throughout the story. Very thought-provoking  and heartbreaking but really worth trying.

By the way , the original title 火車( Kasya) is a fire wheel in which Deads, who have committed crime before they die, are carried away to Hell .A little birdy told me that they are burn to death and get back to their lives just to get burn to death again.  I guess the folk story comes from one of an old traditional literature.Very BRUTAL.

If you are intersted in the fire wheel story, check out a book "地獄変(Zigoguhen)"by Ryunosuke Akutagawa. You will get to know more about the story.

Thanks for reading.

Good Day💙
