Hi there! How are you all doing today?
As you can tell by the title, I've finished reading a book , One Day in December by Josie Silver today .
Sorry my review includes spoiler so if you have yet to wrap up the book, you can come back here again afterwards.
Sadly It didn't take that much time to realise that I wasn't going to like this book as much as I expected I would be.
Don' get me wrong here! I throughly enjoyed how this story stired up my emotion . Very atmospheric that I felt actually cold in snow haha Besides it has some comedy elements in characters' remarks that I was laughing at the time.
Having said that, It could've been much much much better if I liked protagonists !! I might be wrong to expect that Laurie and Jack are to be loyal, sincere and more thoughtful to other people espesially to those who are around them you know what I mean. I resent the couple tbh.
It's incredibly irksome since Laurie says "I'd wait you a life time" " I' ve missed you for entire 9 years " to Jack at the end of the story while she (or Jack as well) insisted on that they just were friend . She could've been honest at least in her telling but she didn't which is soooo disappointing.
Why she got marry Oscar when her heart was still missing Jack ? Poor Oscar! I was wondering if Oscar hadn't been a sort of rich man with his steady career and his good-looking face, Laurie would've married him in the first place over her feeling toward Jack and again Laurie should have waited for Jack IF really she had that strong love for Jack .SOO I haven't been convinced that this marriage with Jack will last long when things get rough for one of them since the two protagonists don't know what to do to maintain love when the novelty worns off or things don't go the way they expect.
Above all , ☆☆★★★（３/５）fun read but average,irky,immature love and nothing mind blowing .

イギリススラングやボキャブラリーが多くアメリカ英語以外に興味があれば語彙を広げるのにもってこいです。
ききなれない固有名詞が多かったり（映画や小説、お酒、地名等）するので知らないと背景や冗談がわかりにくいですが難解な文法はあまりなくわりとスムーズに読めます。
４００ページ程、チャプターも短く比較的読みやすい。
個人的には英検２級、高校レベルの英文法がしっかり理解できていたら話は大半理解できるかと感じました。
あらすじ：１２月の寒いバスの中でローレル（Laurie)がバスの窓を見るとバス停で本を読んでいる男の子に一目惚れをしてしまう。その男の子との関係や親友のサラ（Sarah)との友情について書かれた話。
これ以上書くと読む楽しみがなくなりそうなのでかなりざっくりですがここまで。

話の構成はきっちりタイムラインが記され誰の視点から書かれているのでストーリーはおいやすくわかりやすかっし、季節や場面設定も雰囲気があり世界観は綺麗でよかったですがキャラクターについて言えば、全く共感することができずに評価は平均ぐらいにしました。読者がすべてのキャラクターについて共感し理解しキャラクターを好きになることを著者は求めていないと思いますがあまりに共感できる人物が少なくがっかりでした。
主人公のローレルとジャックについていえば、物語の最後には「９年間ずっと恋しかった」「あなたのことを一生待っている」等、ローレルはジャックのことをかなり愛していることを伝えますが、そんなにジャックへの愛が時を隔てて消えることなく確信的な物とわかっていたのにオスカー（Oscar)となぜ結婚したの？と思うしそこに正当な理由がみつけられない。サラと喧嘩した時にこそこそジャックを狙っていたのではない、ただの友達と否定したのにも親友に嘘をついて怒られているのにさらに自分の気持ちに嘘を重ねるのもサラがかわいそうだと思ったしローレルの勝手さが顕著に現れていた。結局最後に二人が結ばれたのはジャックがお互いの環境が運よく整ったからだという印象が拭えない。
初めからお互いの気持ちに正直になっていたらもっと傷つく人は少なかったのにとおもいました。
